Synopsis: “She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer.

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all.

Review: 4.5 Stars - Pocketful of Sand is the latest title from author M. Leighton. This title isn’t the first I’ve read from this author and she has yet again proved it won’t be my last. One thing I love is a great story with a broken character, make that two broken characters who are running from their pasts and you’ve one heck of a story!

Michelle is one of my “you write it, I’ll read it” authors. So, when I heard about this title I couldn’t help but do a little freak out that readers such as myself were getting something new to read from her. And the synopsis along with that cover… I couldn’t wait to have it available on my kindle!

So, when you start reading this book you get to see the story from both points of view. Cole and Eden’s stories –both present and back – unfold from the dual points of view. Both have experienced their fair share of tragedy. Some more shocking than others and you can’t help but have your heart ache time and time again until it breaks not once, not twice but at least for me, three times.

The writing of this one is quick, the story flies by, and sometimes I felt like I was missing something. Or there were a few times I felt the story went one way one minute and then I blinked and it then went the other. Yet I should mention I was reading an ARC copy, so being that this wasn’t a finished copy there’s always room for things to change. I’m not going to take too much away from my rating on this one because it really didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book.

As for the characters they are extremely interesting. Michelle keeps readers glued to the pages of this one as she slowly shares who these two are with some pretty huge explosive moments that’ll have you wondering just how she was able to get through some of these scenes.

And then the ending… I don’t even know what to say because there’s something special about the ending you won’t find spoilers from me here! But that ending? Yeah… it’s…. I’ll just say this, Michelle – how? What? I’m still kind of freaking out and, and, and… that was just… my mind was blown! Didn’t see that coming from a million miles away. If you could see me now I’m bowing down to you for that one.

In the end, I love Michelle and her writing. I love her characters and the journeys each of them take me one. I love how easily I find myself immersed in your words as real life falls away and Pocketful of Sand did it all over again and then some.

I highly recommend you read anything from this talented author including this title. And really, there’s nothing more I can say, but go read the book... this one and everything else you can get your hands on from her and you can thank me later. Enjoy!
